Every so often something lands on the desk that is better than anything we would have thought to brief.

This one came from a young artist in the Dingo Labels family, drawn as a school maths exercise. Seven pieces, cut and coloured by hand: five triangles, a square and a parallelogram, each one labelled in pencil so there is no confusion about what it is. Put together they make something with a pointed ear, a long snout and a tail, and it looks more like a dingo than a few concepts we have seen from grown adults.

We like it for reasons that are not entirely sentimental. A tangram is seven straight edges doing a lot of work, which is more or less the job description of a good label: not much room, a few clean shapes, and every piece has to earn its place. It is also the sort of mark that would survive being engraved at 18mm, which is more than you can say for most detailed artwork.

So, what do you reckon? Should the tangram dingo make it onto something real?

Dingo Labels is a new Australian label printing business taking shape, built around two core product lines: vinyl stickers and engraved laminate switchboard labels.

The switchboard labelling side comes first, drawing on hands-on production experience in the industry. Engraved laminate labels are the standard for equipment identification, meter tagging and switchboard signage across trade and industrial sites — durable, kiss-cut for clean application, and built to the same standard tradespeople already rely on.

Vinyl stickers are the second line, covering everything from hazard and warning decals to general-purpose signage. Every sticker is printed and laminated in-house, so we control the finish end to end — proper UV-stable laminate over the print, not the lightweight "printable vinyl" stock that fades and lifts within a season.

Where things stand today: Dingo Labels is in its build-out phase — supplier relationships, equipment, and production processes are being locked in ahead of taking on customer orders. We'd rather get the fundamentals right than rush a launch, so if you're reading this early, you're getting a look behind the scenes before we're taking orders at scale.
